THIS week we take a peek inside the handbag of GERALDINE MAGEE who works in the Parks Department at Coleraine Borough Council.
The only female out of a work force of over 20, she plays an integral role in the day to day running of the Department.
Currently preparing for the arrival of the judges of the Britain in Bloom competition in August, Geraldine is a keen
gardener a
nd picks up lots of tips at work on how to look after her green space at home.
1. Diary
This is a busy time of year for Parks and a busy time for me in the office. The towns and villages in the borough are in full bloom at the minute and the men are extremely busy watering and pruning the flower beds, hanging baskets and all the lovely colourful features.
There are several duties and appointments coming up to the Britain in Bloom judging period in early August and I use my diary to remind me of all these commitments.
2. Wallet
Bought on holiday in Portugal. I went into a leather shop to have a look around and shop owner became so insistent I couldn't get out of shop without buying one ….what was one to do?
3. Lipstick
I always carry my lipstick...definitely a woman's best friend.
4. Mobile Phone
I wouldn't be without my phone - affectionately known as the 'brick' but wouldn't change it for the world. My children, Fiona and Brian wanted to update it for me at Christmas but I said no, I prefer my old fashioned one!
5. Glasses
Essential in recent years - especially for reading text messages and shopping. Labels and prices are impossible without them!
6. Perfume
I wear Chloe Eau de Parfum. My daughter gave me this perfume for my birthday and it's a really lovely fragrance. Great for summer.
7. Blue Book
This little book is infamous in my household, always gets a quip from my children as I like to keep an eye on my finances. My husband thinks I am very well organised but it's really to check on what I can spend on ME each month!
8. Ball Point Pen
Essential for writing those cheques!
9. Digital Camera
It's always useful to carry as it's great for on-the-spot photos. I use it when travelling and if I see some interesting floral display I bring photos back for discussion with work colleagues.
