UP to fifty postmen and women from the Coleraine area, together with members and supporters of Coleraine Football Club, will be among hundreds of local people giving blood later this month.
The postmen are involved in a unique fund-raising blood donation session, the idea of postman, Chris Ramsey, who led the way in getting the Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion Service to bring their van to the area for a joint Royal Mail company visit with Coleraine Football Club.

With limited space at the Delivery Office, Royal Mail teamed up with Coleraine Football Club who kindly offered the use of the Showgrounds to park the large Blood Transfusion van.

It is hoped that this initiative will generate interest from other businesses in the area to host similar events.
The sessions will take place on Tuesday, June 23 from 2:30 to 4:30pm and from 5:45 to 8:00pm and are open to anyone in the area who wishes to donate blood.

The Royal Mail employees have been gaining support through sponsorship forms for the past few weeks and hope to raise a few hundred pounds for their chosen charity Barnardo's.

Andy Alcorn, Royal Mail's Delivery Office Manager at Coleraine, said: "I am delighted with the response from our postmen and women to this initiative which will benefit not only Barnardo's but also the community at large through the blood donated.

"We are extremely grateful to all those who have sponsored us or who have supported us in any way and all money raised will go straight to Barnardo's in Northern Ireland".

Andy has also set up a donation website through justgiving that everyone can use to donate to Barnardo's directly and tax-free. If you would like to support Andy and the local postmen you can do so directly to them or on-line at www.justgiving.com/andyalcorn.
