COLERAINE pair Peter Ferris and Wayne Pollock will tackle the third leg of their attempt to run seven marathons in seven counties in seven days.
They began their remarkable attempt by completing the Ulster Cancer Foundation's Summer Santa Fun Run in Belfast on Father's Day.
Yesterday the boys ran from Belfast to Bangor and Newtownards and back to Belfast - a distance of 28 miles.
Today (Tuesday) they will attempt another 28-miler, taking in Portadown, Craigavon, Lurgan and Armagh.
Both of these outstanding athletes will be heading to the South Pole to participate in the Antarctic Ice Marathon and Half Marathon as well as the Antarctic 100 km/62 mile Ultra Marathon this December.
The intrepid duo completed the North Pole Marathon last year in temperatures of -42C and picked up frostbite.
Wayne and Peter will also run the New Year's Eve Midnight Marathon in Sao Paulo, Brazil on New Year's Eve.
If successful they will be the first to have completed all three Polar events in the Southern Hemisphere in a matter of days. Both runners want to complete the Grand Slam of running a marathon and ultra marathon in each of the seven continents of the world.
They hope to use the grueling Antarctic challenges to raise £100,000 for UCF's Man Alive! Campaign and want the Northern Ireland public to support their attempt to complete seven marathons in seven days across the Province.
Peter has run over 300 marathons, raising more than £350,000 for charity to date. He says that his motivation to raise money for the Ulster Cancer Foundation is due to his personal experience of cancer.
Most of Peter's family have died from cancer or suffered from it. Wayne and Peter would like to see a cure for all cancers in their lifetimes.
