FOCUS on Family in Ballysally continues to provide a high-quality service for all local people.
There has, however, been one major change to the organisation in recent months. Project Manager Janis McKenna left after 13 years of dedicated service and was replaced by Brendan Patterson.

This marks a new dawn for the organisation, with ambitiou
s plans for the future, as well as the every day reality that the team at Focus now have a man in their midst.

"During my first few days in post it became apparent the depth and variety that is offered here at Focus from the specialised crèche facility and the complementary therapies through to the range of programmes on offer, there is something here for everyone," said Brendan.

"What struck me most was the positive vibe about the place. It really is somewhere where people are made to feel welcome, safe and supported."
Having spent the first few weeks finding his feet and getting to know the staff, Brendan feels comfortable being at the helm of such a vibrant, diverse and innovative project.

"Currently we're delivering six main strands – the crèche for babies and toddlers every week-day morning and afternoon; parenting and nurturing programmes; preventing abuse programmes for both victims and perpetrators of domestic violence; a whole range of skills-based courses from Essential Skills to IT to Cookery; Complementary Therapies like Reiki, Reflexology and Aromatherapy; and a series of cultural events and programmes.
"Through the various project elements we're able to offer a comprehensive and specialised programme to all our house-users and they are able to avail of several courses or services at the one time in order to meet their needs."

Despite the fact that Focus on family are clearly meeting a great deal of local need, Brendan insists that there is still plenty of scope for development.

"Whilst Focus continues to provide a huge range of services and appropriate developmental programmes, there is always the possibility to do more. We are constantly looking to develop, expand and progress in order to meet the changing needs of our local population," he said.
"The local area is benefiting from the amazing work going on both here at Focus and more widely in the community. There are so many positive initiatives happening through other local organisations and agencies that it leads to a very positive outlook for everyone.

"This has been secured through ongoing funding from various sources including Big Lottery, DSD, IFI, Children in Need, Surestart, Coleraine Council and Strategic Partnership, among others. Being relatively new to the Ballysally area, I maybe haven't seen the progression over the years, but having spoken to many local residents and workers it is obvious that this area is well and truly on the up and there is a very strong sense of optimism about the area."
