FIVE leading Northern Ireland companies - including Armstrong Medical in Coleraine - have together raised an impressive £80,000 for The Prince’s Trust through its Million Makers Challenge to help turn around the lives of disadvantaged young people in Northern Ireland.

With initial seed funding from The Prince’s Trust, the five finalists competed against each other to run the most profitable mini enterprise over the past six months.

Armstrong Medical, BTWShiells, Cavanagh Kelly, Cunningham Coates Stockbrokers and Harbinson Mulholland undertook a wide range of activities including a movie premiere, bicycle race, afternoon tea, stock market challenge, masquerade ball and a night at the dog racing to maximise profits to donate to the charity.

Coleraine based Armstrong Medical promoted a wide range of events in the North Coast area over the past six months, including a charity cycle, Britain’s Got Talent Night, car boot sales, charity collections and pub quizzes.

Speaking at the final awards ceremony, Johnathan McLaughlin, the Armstrong Medical Team Leader, said: “The Prince’s Trust Millions Makers competition has been a great experience for me and the other Armstrong Medical employees.

“The hard work and dedication of our team was no doubt a key factor in the overall competition success of raising £80,000 for disadvantaged young people. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to our cause in any way.”

Ian Jeffers, Director of The Prince’s Trust in Northern Ireland said: “Not only have the team participants developed many transferable skills such as leadership, motivation and decision making, but the money raised will make a significant impact on the lives of many disadvantaged young people throughout Northern Ireland.”
