COLERAINE Ladies defeated Fermanagh Mallards 4-1 in the Coca Cola Championship League last Wednesday.
The game was played in Cookstown, and Coleraine expected a tough tie against the former Permier League side.

Alison Nicholl's side settled early, but it was the Mallards who looked dangerous in the opening exchanges.
Their striker forced the Coleraine defence of Becky Naylor, Shairee Nicholl, Sheena Jamieson and Amy McAllister to work hard early on to clear any danger.

Nicholl and Lyndsay Whiteside worked hard in midfield to gain possession, and it paid off after ten minutes when the player manager got on the end of a Lauren Quinn cross to take the lead.
Lauren Quinn continuted to make some good runs to the left flanks. And it was she who made the second goal, using her pace to find space and crossing in for Lauren Wade to slot home after 15 minutes.

Wade grabbed her brace on the stroke of half time. Good build up play in the midfield saw Wade getting into a good position to slot home.
Fermanagh came out strongly in the second half looking for an early goal to get back in the game. But, Coleraine continued to create chances. Karen Millar was unlucky not to get her name on the scoresheet and Lauren Quinn had a chance when she went one on one with the keeper.
Fermanagh Mallards grabbed a goal back with 15 minutes to go but good play from Lauren Wade and Alison Nicholl saw Wade finishing in style to complete a well deserved hat-trick and take her tally for the season to six.

Player/manager, Alison Nicholl was delighted with the display: "This was an outstanding team performance.
"Everyone played their part to pick up an important three points. Pauline Merritt made her debut towards the end of the second half and settled in well."

Alison singled out her defence on the night: "These girls worked hard, and they had a lot of pressure to deal with. Amy McAllister and Shariee Nicholl were outstanding and Becky Naylor also did very well.
"I felt that myself and Lyndsay Whiteside linked up well in midfield and Lauren Wade and Karen Millar were able to get into some good scoring positions."

The girls take on Cliftonville this Thursday in the Championship Divisional Cup.

Cliftonville are sitting third in the Championship league, but when the two sides last met Coleraine ran out 4-1 winners.
The game at Coleraine University has a 7.30pm kick off.
