Coleraine & District Badminton League
Autoline Insurance Group Division 2

Garvagh and Ballinteer continue to battle it out for league honours.

The teams met each other last week, in what proved to be a very close encounter. The game ended in a 3-3 draw.

Garvagh won the first men
’s double in two very close games, Ballinteer hit back by winning the first ladies in three games.

Ballinteer then won the next two mixed matches to give them three points which they needed to give them the title. Although the title was out of their grasp, Garvagh won the remaining two mixed to give them a well deserved draw.

Over the season, these two teams have battled for the league title and there has been very little between them. One final league match between Garvagh and Dunboe has to be played.

Autoline Insurance Group Division 3

In Division 3, Ballinteer drew 3-3 with Dunboe in a very exciting match.

Most of the matches were settled in the third set and could have gone either way.

Garvagh then defeated Dunboe 5-1 in a match which was closer than the score would suggest. As with their previous matches, the game was decided in the third set.

In the final match of the league, Garvagh will host Ballinteer in a title showdown. Garvagh must win the match to pinch the honours and another close match in expected.

Autoline Insurance Group Division 4

Division four is aimed at minor B graded players. There are still matches to be played in the this division.

Sandelford were beaten 4-2 by Ballinteer 2’s, in the opening game, this is the only match Sandelford have lost to date.

Ballinteer 2’s then drew 3-3 with Dunboe in a very exciting match which could have gone either way.

Ballinteer 1’s had previously won both their opening matches quite comfortably but were fortunate to win 4-2 against a very determined Dunboe team.

Garvagh and UUC fielded less experienced teams in their matches which they lost, however both teams can be proud of the way in which they kept going and battled until the end. The experience should help them progress for the future.

When the two Ballinteer teams met, it was always going to be a close match. Ballinteer 2’s could have won the league in this encounter, but despite taking a 3-1 lead, they failed to get the extra point they needed to win the title.

There are still games to played in this division.

Autoline Insurance Group Men’s League

Garvagh and Ballinteer are battling it out for the title in this league.

Dunboe have pushed both teams close, but have been unable to win enough points to keep them in the title hunt.

The annual Coleraine & District Tournaments are currently being played.
