THE Coleraine Festival of Pool will next year introduce a first for the Province with the inaugural Northern Ireland Pool Schools' Cup.
Schools from across Northern Ireland will be invited to enter teams in three age categories - under-15, under-17 and under-19.
According to Coleraine Bass Pool League chairman, Chris Baxter, the new competition will hopefully introduce a new generation of players to the eight ball game.
"We are inviting teachers, parents and pupils to come along to this year's Festival when it starts on February 23.
"We want people to see the set up and ask any questions that they might have.
"The new competition is a year away and that will give young people the chance to improve their standard."
Chris said the idea was to encourage more young people to pick up a cue and try pool as their chosen sport.
"We're quite happy to meet teachers and pupils during the day if that suits them.
"Play at the Festival takes place every night from 7pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 1pm"
Times Sport will keep readers informed about the arrangements for the inaugural tournament next year - so watch this space.
