Detectives are investigating an arson attack on a house in Lever Park in Portstewart during the early hours of Friday morning, February 6.

At around 4am it was reported that flammable liquid had been poured through the letterbox and bins placed against the door of the property before being set on fire.

Police and NIFRS attended and the fire was extinguished. An adult male who was in the property at the time was not injured.

Detective Sergeant Chris Wilkinson is appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information about the incident to contact Detectives in Coleraine on the non-emergency number 101.

Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

An attack on a home in Lever Park, Portstewart has been described as the worst form of cowardice possible by East Derry SDLP Assembly Member John Dallat.

He said: “The persons or persons who did this are a very low form of life that needs to be reeled in before they burn someone to death which they could have in this case.

“I would appeal to anyone who has any information to communicate it to the PSNI immediately so that arrests can be made.

“I have spoken to the police and I am hoping that the leads they are following will result in the culprits being arrested, successfully prosecuted and put behind bars for a very long time for what can only be described as attempted murder.”
