It was a blend of generous fund-raising and an enlightening and entertaining talk at the opening new season meeting of Breathe Easy Causeway.

Guest speaker at the September meeting at the Coleraine Rugby Club was broadcaster and author, Tony Macaulay.

With an awareness-alerting touch, he quoted extracts from his three books – “Paper Boy,” “Bread Boy” and “All Growed Up” – to the delight of an attentive audience.

A cheque presentation of £800 was made to the Breathe Easy Group by Mrs Betty Calvert, a Windy Hall Road neighbour of Breathe Easy Treasurer, Mr Sam Kelly.

The proceeds of a barbecue and barn dance, Mrs Calvert has donated £800 in each of the last five years, and has been a regular contributor to Breathe Easy funds for the past eight years.

Thanking Mrs Calvert, Mr Kelly said: “Fund-raising is an important aspect of the work of Breathe Easy Causeway. The funds are greatly appreciated by the British Lung Foundation and all proceeds are invaluable in helping people with serious breathing disorders.

“However, Breathe Easy Causeway is not all about money raising. Throughout the season there is also a series of keep-fit sessions under the expert guidance of qualified fitness instructors. “
