The Causeway Coast and Glens Heritage Trust recently co-hosted a World Heritage Site insight event with the Northern Ireland Tourist Board in Bushmills to explore the value of World Heritage Site status for local businesses.
Local business owners and community representatives were invited along to the Mill Rest Hostel to hear from guest speakers including Patrick Mc Keever, Head of Earth Sciences at UNESCO in Paris.
Kirstin Lemon from the Geological Survey of Northern Ireland commented: ‘This event has provided an excellent platform for us to explain the geological formation of the Giant’s Causeway, its international uniqueness and the existing and potential economic benefits in
terms of tourism’.
National Trust representatives Art Ward and Esther Dobbin reported on the Trust’s community focused projects in Bushmills and beyond, for example village treasure hunts and school art projects.
