Car Boot Sale, Farmers Market and Craft Fair set to tackle poverty

COLERAINE charity Vineyard Compassion is inviting Coleraine Times readers to join them as they launch their new monthly Car Boot Sale, Farmers Market and Craft Fair this Saturday, July 21.

The event will take place at the Vineyard Complex at Hillman’s Way in Coleraine. All proceeds from the fundraiser will go directly towards Vineyard Compassion – a local charity which exists to tackle poverty in the Coleraine area, through 17 different projects including a Debt counselling centre, Food Bank, Clothing Bank and Recovery Support group.

Ricky Wright, Director of Vineyard Compassion told: “Events like this generate a buzz in the borough, creating a unique sense of community and making it a welcoming, attractive place for shoppers to visit.

“We are not only hoping to attract people to the town but to also support our local producers as well as the local economy and all for a worthy cause.”

With more than 100 outdoor pitches and 85 indoor pitches the event will run from 9am to 12 noon and will take place on the third Saturday of every month.

Sellers can set up their stalls between 8.00am and 8.45am. Other activities will include free face painting and a bouncy castle for the children and live music for everyone to enjoy. Hot food along with tea and coffee will be available at the event.

Ricky added: “Many local families are struggling financially and the Car Boot Sale provides an easy opportunity to generate some much needed cash from all the stuff in the attic or garage which in turn saves other local families money as they have the option to buy preloved items for a fraction of their original cost.

“The Craft Fair provides a much needed outlet for crafters to sell their handmade, locally produced goods. Farmers’ Markets help make fresh local produce more easily available to people in the area. They are good for the environment, reducing food miles which is the distance travelled from farm to fork, saving energy and cutting pollution not to mention keeping money circulating in the local economy.”

A minimum donation of £5 per indoor pitch is requested, bring your own table or there are a limited number of tables available to rent at £2 each. Outdoor pitches are available for a minimum donation of £5 per car or £10 per van - trailers are an extra £5.
