A COASTGUARD Rescue Officer from the Coleraine team has won a prestigious leadership award.
This annual competition brings together Coastguard Rescue Teams from all over Ireland and aims to test all of their skills. Realistic scenarios are created to test the teams’ response and require them to use all of their ability in the following areas: map reading, rope rescue work, confined space rescue, water rescue, first aid and driving skills.
Nikki scored consistently highly in all of these events, and was presented with a silver trophy by Lady Sylvia Hermon. She was also congratulated by Chris Reynolds, the Director of the Irish Coast Guard, and by Richard Newell, Rescue Co-ordination Centre Manager for Belfast Coastguard.
Speaking after the event, Nikki remarked: “I thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the competition and was really surprised to win.” Station Officer Stuart Leslie, who witnessed Nikki’s victory, praised her skill and determination.
Station Officer Chris Little commented: “We are delighted by Nikki’s success in bringing such an honour to the Coleraine team.”
