Man was '˜equipped with knives and bat'

A Portrush man has been charged with possessing two knives and a baseball bat for use in connection with crime.

Darren Samuel Campbell Young (22), of Glentaisie Park, is alleged to have had a baseball bat, two knives, cable ties, a pair of marigold gloves and grey duck tape for use in a burglary or theft.

He is also charged with being in possession of an offensive weapon - a hammer. The alleged offences happened at Drumcroon Road near Coleraine on April 23 this year.

The accused is further charged with dangerous driving on the Dunhill and Drumcroon Roads and failing to stop when required to do so by police.

He is also accused of driving without insurance and absence of a driving licence.

He has yet to enter his pleas to those charges but at Coleraine Magistrates Court last Tuesday a police officer said she believed she could connect him to the charges.

Young, who was in the dock, pleaded guilty to one other charge - possession of herbal cannabis - which related to April 24 this year.

The court was told he now has an address at a hostel in Belfast. The case was adjourned to June.

* Charges against two people accused of common assault and disorderly behaviour in Coleraine on July 13 last year have been dismissed.

Mandy Cahoon (54), of Elms Park, Coleraine and Alan Ian Cahoon (27), of Cypress Drive, in the town, were each charged with being disorderly at New Market Street.

Mandy Cahoon was further charged with assaulting Wendy Fleming and Alan Cahoon was also charged with assaulting Wendy Fleming and Lisa Dobbin.

The case had been listed for contest at Coleraine Magistrates Court on May 16 but a prosecutor said withdrawal statements had been made and no evidence was being offered.
