Sugden would '˜weigh pros and cons' of justice role

Independent unionist MLA Claire Sugden has said she would not rule herself out of the running to become the new justice minister.

The role requires cross-community backing, and Alliance have held it since 2010, although the party is undecided on whether or not to take it this time.

The Green Party have said they may take it if offered.

She said that she “hadn’t really considered” whether she may take the role if offered, adding that no-one has appreached her about it.

Asked if she would rule herself out, she said: “No, by all means I wouldn’t.”

She would “weigh up the pros and cons of it” if she was approached.

She believes the Alliance Party will end up taking it, adding: “But stranger things have happened. You never know.”
