Wilson calls for NW200 launch to be moved to Causeway Coast and Glens

At Tuesday evening's leisure and development committee, Ulster Unionist Cllr. Darryl Wilson put forward a number of proposals with the aim of enhancing the positive impact which the NW200 has on the Borough.

Cllr Wilson said: “I have asked council officers to liaise with race organisers to explore the option of moving the race launch from Belfast to a location within the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough. We have a number of locations which would suit such an event.

“I have also asked officers to formulate and spearhead a multi agency group which should include Chambers of commerce, local businesses and Tourism NI in a bid to explore ways of further enhancing the impact that Northern Irelands flagship sporting event has within our local towns.

“Existing parts of the build up to the main event, such as “meet and greet the riders”, should move around the larger towns within Borough on an annual basis.

“I feel that we have yet to realise the full potential of having the NW200 on our doorstep, we need to fully explore Increasing social and economic benefits for my home town of Ballymoney and for the rest of the Borough.”
