Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council is to write to Agriculture Minister, Michelle O’Neill in support of local farmers.
At a meeting last Tuesday night, DUP Alderman John Finlay proposed that a letter should be written. He said that dairy farmers needed their milk payments increased to at least 20 pence per litre, “any intervention will help our farmers,” he said.
Seconding the proposal by Alderman Finlay’s, Coleraine UUP councillor William King said: “We all know what’s being forced on the agricultural community - it’s not only happening here, it’s world wide.
“I just fear that we will loose farms and their sons.
Sinn Fein councillor Brenda Chivers agreed, adding: “We must support our farmers.”
