The man whose body was found at a disused hotel in Portstewart was Christopher Connor, 20, from Coleraine.

His body was discovered on Monday outside the Montague Arms Hotel in Church Street.

A post-mortem examination has been carried out and police are continuing to make enquiries into the circumstances of Mr Connor’s death.

Police had issued an appeal on Monday after Christopher was last seen in the Promenade area in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Local people have been leaving flowers in the area near the hotel on the town’s promenade.

Part of Church Street was sealed off and forensic experts continued their examination on Tuesday.

Portstewart alderman Maura Hickey said the reaction of the community was one of “shock and horror”.

“It is tragic that any family in the run-up to Christmas should find themselves with the loss of a young member at this particular time,” she said.
