A man charged with being disorderly at Coleraine’s Causeway Hospital told PSNI officers: “I think the police should understand mental health issues better and could use guidance in that field”.

The words of Andrew William Stanfield (29), of Swilly Close, Portstewart, were outlined to Coleraine Magistrates Court last Monday by District Judge Liam McNally.

The defendant is alleged to have been disorderly at the hospital on March 4 this year.

Defence solicitor Garrett Greene said his client has mental health issues.

The case was adjourned to April.
