SDLP MLA John Dallat has described the water situation in the borough as 'very serious'.
The MLA says that he has been informed by NI Water that they are now searching for further bursts, as they have failed to restore pressure in the system.
The Assembly Member said: "One consumer has 20,000 chickens and has been drawing water for several days.
"There are elderly people who need to be washed regularly and their carers are now using bottled water to maintain basic hygiene.
"The situation is very serious and earlier hopes of having the system restored now looks uncertain for a large number of people."
