Fairhead Photographic Club’s 10th season has got off to an encouraging start with a number of newcomers joining at an Introductory Evening on Tuesday 6th September.

Against a background display of prints from the past year’s Club competitions, Chairman Kieran Casey from Cloughmills welcomed all present. “A photographic Club isn’t primarily a class”, he emphasised. “It’s about sharing our interest in photography, about forming friendships around photography and inspiring and assisting oneanother to become more proficient photographers; and to have fun”.

Member participation is to be a hall-mark of the year’s programme which nonetheless will feature talks and presentations by experienced photographers, some who are Club members, some prominent visitors. A further ‘Introduction’ session is planned for Tuesday 13th September: a ‘How to...’ demonstration of some basic techniques of digital photography. Thereafter the Club will meet fortnightly on alternate Tuesdays.

The Chairman then spoke about Club competitions – five in the year, from which a number will be selected to represent the Club in the monthly competitions of the Northern Ireland Photographic Association - some 30 Clubs. As hitherto there will be three sections: Colour and Monochrome prints, and Projected Digital Images. These will be judged in two categories, Novice and Open Novice and Advanced.

Club Secretary Kathy Stewart of Coleraine distributed information leaflets on the Club programme for the ensuing year, through to May 2017. The first in-Club competition will be on Tuesday 27th September, the subject-matter being ‘Open’, i.e. any theme. Meetings are held from 7.30 in the upper room of Portnagree House (the Harbour and Tourist Offices building) Ballycastle.
