Morelli’s ice cream continues to fly the flag for Northern Ireland by scooping another major honour at the UK’s top ice cream awards.
The family’s famous double cream dairy vanilla won the Open Ice Cream class at the National Ice Cream Competition run by The Ice Cream Alliance - the trade body for the UK’s £1 billion ice cream industry.
The win comes as the Morelli family continue to expand their business and are opening a new family owned parlour in Cookstown to complement their outlets in Portrush and Portstewart.
Daniela Morelli said:”All the credit goes to my father Guido who developed the recipe which has led to so much success.
“The recognition these awards bring has been a great advantage in growing our business. In addition to the new parlour opening soon, we are also supplying Tesco and Sainsbury’s with our products and we hope to be launching a series of new retail lines this year including our ‘diabetes friendly’ ice cream.”
The Morelli family have won eight major awards in the National competitions for their products in recent years including the title of champion ice cream makers in the UK and Ireland.
Arnaldo Morelli, whose great uncle Pietro Morelli founded the business, said: “Our success is based on using the finest Irish dairy produce and ingredients which are all carefully sourced with our double cream being produced right on our doorstep!”
It’s a formula that is clearly working with more than 50 different flavours of ice cream being produced at their Coleraine factory supplying demand from a host of hotels and restaurants as well as retailers across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
The family firm employs seven people and produces more than 300,000 litres of ice cream every year.
