The Causeway University of the Third Age (U3A) held its first monthly meeting of the year in Portstewart Golf Club.
The guest speaker was Belfast based journalist, author of six books and broadcaster Malachi O’Doherty, who gave a fascinating talk.
Although his talk had been billed as primarily on the Belfast or ‘Good Friday’ Agreement, Mr O’Doherty traced the development of the Provisional IRA and Sinn Féin from 1970 up until the decommissioning of weapons in 2005.
Mr O’Doherty also offered opinions on more recent political developments, even including the forthcoming referendum on Scottish independence.
Mr O’Doherty’s talk was a stimulating introduction into the eclectic range of talks and activities planned by the U3A.
