15 cars damaged in Greenmount area

Police are appealing for information after vehicles were found with tyres slashed and windows broken in the Lismurphy Avenue, Greenmount Road, Laurel Hill Road and Fernhill Crescent areas.

The damage occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning.

DUP councillors, George Duddy and Adrian McQuillan were in the area on Saturday morning to talk with residents and to survey the damage.

In a statement the DUP pair called on members of the public to come forward with any information about the incident.

“This is a shocking crime.

“Around 15 vehicles were damaged in this incident which can only be described as wanton vandalism.

“There is a fear factor in the area now, however police are reassuring home owners in the area that patrols will be stepped up.”

Independent councillor Claire Sugden also spoke out about the incident: “I am disgusted by an appalling, senseless crime carried out by those who have no respect for themselves or others.

“They are brazen individuals with have no positive role to play within our community and have created fear and anger in a good neighbourhood that will not tolerate it.”

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 0845 600 8000 or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
