Gerry McLaughlin was a very proud man on Friday evening as his daughter Stephanie Quigley pulled in 721 first preference votes in the Coleraine DEA.
Stephanie was one of the first females elected to the new Causeway Coast and Glens District council.
Councillor Quigley took over her father, Gerry’s Coleraine Borough Council seat in December last year.
“I am just so proud of Stephanie,” said Gerry.
“I have given her lots of advice through the campaign, and I am delighted that she will now have the chance to carry on the good work that she has started.
“She, like me, enjoys helping people, and in my eyes that’s what being a councillor is all about.”
Stephanie (45), a mother of five, said she was ‘blown away’ by the election results.
“I will give it my all,” she said.
“People that know me know that I have found the last seven months as a councillor difficult, yet very rewarding at the same time.
“It has been a steep learning curve and great fun at the same time.
“I am looking forward now to continuing the work I started especially with the Street Pastors initiative.”
