Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a 46-year-old man in Coleraine.

He was found outside residential premises on Strand Road around 3:50am on Saturday.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment for head injuries, but was pronounced dead at hospital.

Two people have been arrested and are helping police with their enquiries while the facts are being established.

Police have appealed for anyone who was in the Strand Road area in the early hours of Saturday morning to contact them.

DUP MLA Adrian McQuillan has sent his sympathies to the man’s family, and has called on anyone with information to come forward.

DUP councillor George Duddy said the ‘whole community was saddened by the death’.

Independent councillor Claire Sugden told The Times: “I don’t think anyone expected to wake up to this sad news this morning.

“I offer heartfelt condolences to the man’s family and friends, and appeal to anyone with information to contact police.”
