Coleraine Commander, Chief Inspector Nicky Thompson has called on parents and youth and community leaders to assist local police to make this year’s Halloween celebrations safe and fun.
Making a direct appeal, the Chief Inspector said: “In previous years we have witnessed the devastating injuries that can be caused when young people use fireworks unsupervised.
“In the weeks prior to and after Halloween, we will be dedicating resources in an effort to reduce the potential for harm to both individuals and communities from fireworks. Officers will be tackling the supply of illegal fireworks and working in communities to tackle anti-social behaviour. I would ask parents to make sure they know the whereabouts of their children.”
