A local woman has set up a fundraising page to raise funds to remember the children of the Buncrana tragedy in Coleraine’s Angel of Hope Garden

Like so many of us, local mum Louise Shaw was touched by the tragic accident that took place on the shores of Lough Swilly last weekend.

Flowers laid at the scene of the tragedy.

Flowers laid at the scene of the tragedy.

Sean McGrotty, who was in his late 40s, his two sons Mark (12) and Evan (8), and the boys’ granny Ruth Daniels (59) died alongside Mrs Daniels’ daughter Jodi-Lee (14), when the family’s Audi jeep slid on algae on the slipway at Buncrana pier.

Louise says she feels that by placing stars on the ‘Wall of Remembrance’ that the people of the area will be paying tribute to the children involved in the tragic accident.

She said: “I cannot imagine how their last minutes felt.

“I thought of something our community could do to show our respects - by having their names printed on a star and laid in the ‘Angel of Hope Memorial Garden’.

Louise has contacted Andrea McAleese who was behind the garden, located on the Portstewart Road, and she has backed her on her quest to remember the children from Londonderry.

The Angel of Hope Garden was officially opened back in August 2015.

It was a the brain child of local mum Andrea McAleese who wanted a place to remember children, like her little daughter Roma.
