Call for donations and volunteers

Cancer Focus Northern Ireland is seeking new volunteers and, if you are spring cleaning, please give your unwanted goods to the Cancer Focus charity shop in Coleraine.

Bernie Stewart, Cancer Focus Shop Manager in Coleraine, said: “Our volunteers are a valued part of the Cancer Focus team and our charity shops provide an essential part of the income needed to maintain our wide range of services. The Cancer Focus shops are a busy, fast moving environment and volunteering is a great opportunity to make new friends, learn new skills and gain retail experience.

“You can work behind the till, on the shop floor or help organise the incoming stock. If you have time to spare, enjoy being part of a team and want to help us in the fight against cancer, we welcome your help. A few hours a week or month is a tremendous help.

“As well as volunteers we are in constant need of new stock. In order to give customers as much variety and choice as possible we are adding up to 200 items of stock onto the shop floor everyday. We need the local community to continue to provide us with good quality donations in order to meet the high demand from shoppers.

“So when you’re spring cleaning please give a thought to those items in your home which you no longer need or have never used. We welcome donations of clothing, accessories, books, CDs/DVDs, toys and knick-knacks. Your donations will contribute to cancer services and help local people and their families who have been affected by cancer.”

Cancer Focus, the new name for the Ulster Cancer Foundation, works to reduce the impact of cancer in the local community. It is committed to tackling cancer by supporting cancer research, providing services for cancer patients and their families and by educating people on how they can lower their risk of the disease.

Cancer Focus’s work in the community includes cancer support groups, freephone information helpline, counselling services, a bra fitting service, Beauty for Life, school projects and smoking cessation programmes. All of the Cancer Focus services are provided free of charge.

Please drop your donations into your local shop and if you are interested in volunteering please contact your local shop manager, Bernie on 028 7035 6550 or call in for a chat.
