Call to form Greenmount residents association
RESIDENTS in Greenmount are taking action against the upsurge in anti-social behaviour among young people in the area.
People are unhappy with the growing number of incidences of underage drinking, solvent abuse and general anti-social behaviour. One resident described the situation as "unbearable".
Const Robert Rainey has been working with some members of the local community to help resolve the situation but feels now that the police cannot solve the problems aon their own.
Several meetings have taken place in the Bertie Peacock Centre and at the latest meeting last Wednesday evening Neville Louden from Coleraine Urban Rural Network gave interested residents a guide on how to set up a community group with a proper constitution.
This will enable the new group to obtain funding and support from the community.
Insp Catherine Magee was also present and explained that the situation is slightly different that that of a council or Northern Ireland Housing Executive estate because most of the vandalism is being caused to private property or property belonging to developers.
Already a leaflet drop has been organised in the Greenmount area to gauge interest in forming a community group.
Greenmount residents are invited along to the meeting which will be held in the Bertie Peacock Centre at Killowen Street on Wednesday, June 30 at 7.30pm.
