CHAMPIONSHIP TWO: Nicholl equalier secures a point for Portstewart

IT was a case of deja vu for Portstewart and Wakehurst on Saturday.

The last time the two sides met the match ended in a 1-1 draw, and it was the same on Saturday, as basement club Wakehurst made the trip to the Seaside.

On a heavy pitch both sides found it hard to get going. Paul was on target first for the visitors, but his effort was saved by McAllister. Wakehurst took an early lead after just nine minutes, Parker hit a low drive to go in front.

Rowan Neill netted for the home side a minute later, but it was ruled offside.

Portstewart began to take hold of the tie, McFadden and Tosh were both denied goals by a good display from McErlean in the Wakehurst goal.

Despite Portstewart's best efforts the score remained 1-0 to Wakehurst at the break.

Melon had a early effort for the Ballymena side in the opening minutes of the second half, but it was Portstewart who grabbed an equalier.

Mervyn Nicholl was the man on target much to the delight of the home supporters.

Gary Taylor's side took confidence from this and pushed for a winner, but Wakehurst had the same idea, efforts from Mellon for Wakehurst and Donnell for Portstewart went wide, and the final score ended 1-1.

PORTSTEWART: McAllister, White, McFadden, Gaston, Ramsey, Fisher, Peden, Vauls, Neill, Nicholl, Tosh. Subs: R Nicholl, Todd, Donnell, Moffatt, McGarvey.
