Coleraine schools are best kept
TEACHERS and pupils at two local schools are celebrating after winning prestigious environmental awards.
Kylemore Nursery School in Coleraine has been named the North Eastern Education and Library Board's Best Kept Pre Primary school in the SuperValu Best Kept School Awards, while Coleraine High School has been named the Best Kept Post Primary School.
The Best Kept Awards are organised annually by the Northern Ireland Amenity Council (NIAC) and sponsored by independent retail group SuperValu. NIAC announced the province's Best Kept Schools at an event last week.
Almost 200 schools from across Northern Ireland entered the awards this year and NIAC judges have been travelling the country since March to find the tidiest and most environmentally active schools.
NIAC President Doreen Muskett MBE commented: "When judging the award entries we look for evidence of pupil participation in environmental projects, and of course clean and tidy school grounds. Kylemore Nursery and Coleraine High School are real examples of excellence in all of these areas."
The three local schools have been awarded 300 to help them with their environmental endeavours and all category winners receive a personalised sign and a perpetual crystal trophy.
