Council launches Summer recreation programme
PARENTS and children can look forward to a fun packed summer following the official launch of the Summer Recreation Programme.
Launched this week by the Mayor of Coleraine, Councilor Sandy Gilkinson and Philip Morgan of 'Really light Ribena', the programme is a sure start to an action-packed fun filled summer.
This year there is a wider choice than ever before, with 77 courses covering 26 different activities, including: cheerleading, horse riding, baseball, cricket, fly fishing and bodyboard & surf.
Popular favourite's tennis, trampolining, hockey and golf are also included in the programme.
New for this year are Beach Volleyball, Adventure Running, Just Dance and Street Hockey. Children from the age of 5 will be able to benefit from Council's Award winning Wildcats programme in the form of WILDCUBS Multi-skills camp, where they will be introduced to fun games and activities based on agility, balance and co-ordination.
Due to popular demand, the swimming courses follow the same format as last year, each course will comprise of 10 lessons and each level, 1-7, will be in the main pool whilst the minnow's level will be held in the minor pool.
Following on the success of Council's successful Easter football camps, the summer programme includes specific football camps run in association with Coleraine Football Club for 5-7 year olds and for 8-15 year olds.
Once again, and weather permitting all registered participants will get to play at Coleraine FC's Showgrounds on the last day of each camp.
Roger Downey, Council's Sports Development Officer, said: "Council's Sports Development Team is committed to offering as wide a range of quality activities for young people in the Borough as possible and we believe this year's programme will exceed expectations.
"Roger added: "I would like to welcome back our sponsors, Ribena Really Light, and take this opportunity to thank them for their continued support and we look forward to working with them this summer and in the years ahead."
The sports courses cost 27.50 per person per course and will take place from 5 July – 13 August. All holders of a current Access to Leisure (ATL) card will receive a 50% reduction in all course / scheme fees.
Family Tickets are also available. Enrolment commences at Coleraine Leisure Centre on Saturday 12 June from 8:15am for all sports courses.
