Cup victory for Coleraine Ladies

COLERAINE Ladies are through to the next round of the Coca Cola IFA Cup after a fine 3-1 victory over Cappagh Spurs in Omagh.

Team coach Alison Nicholl praised all her team for their efforts: "It was a great all round performance. It's never easy getting a win away from home and the girls all played very well."

In what was just their second match of the season the Bannsiders took the lead through Lauren Quinn on 15 minutes when she got on the end of a Karen Millar throw.

After that Cappagh battled for possesion and on 20 minutes their determination paid off when exploited a defensive lapse to equalise.

Just before the break, player-manager Alison Nicholl put Coleraine ahead for a second time when she went one on one with the Cappagh keeper to slot home.

Goalkeeper Carrie Nicholl was called upon a number of times before the break but she held firm to keep the visitors ahead at half-time.

Cappagh came out fighting in the second half, some good defending by Sheriee Nicholl stopped Cappagh from getting an equaliser.

Left-sided midfielder Lauren Wade combined well with Lauren Quinn on the right and five minutes from time Coleraine sealed victory with Emma Murphy slotting home.

The girls have to wait until next week to find out their opponents in the next round,. Their next home game is against Moyola at Coleraine Showgrounds on Thursday, May 22.
