Dallat appeals for more volunteers

SDLP East Derry MLA John Dallat has appealed for more volunteers for a 'befriending' scheme run by the Causeway Volunteer Centre based in Coleraine.

Mr Dallat, who presented certificates to volunteers last week, said: "It is a privilege for me to be associated with the Causeway Volunteer Centre and to appeal for more volunteers particularly for the Befriending Scheme which has made such a difference to the lives of people who are experiencing isolation through loneliness.

"For one hour a week people can make a real difference to the lives of others and be rewarded many times over by the satisfaction that they have brought happiness to others less well off."

Mr Dallat stressed: "Never has there been a greater need for people to become volunteers and I commend all those who are already involved. At local level the Causeway Volunteer Centre needs many more volunteers to cover a whole range of demands.

"There are lots of people who could get a great deal of satisfaction from being volunteers while at the same time changing their quality of life for those they engage with.

"I would appeal to everyone to use Volunteer Week to make a difference by getting in touch with their volunteer centre with a view to becoming actively involved."
