Davy's jailbirds are freed!

COLERAINE'S Caring Caretaker, Davy Boyle, held his annual Jail and Bail on Saturday.

Nine wannabe criminals agreed to be locked up for the day, to help raise funds for Davy's five chosen charities for the year.

The 'criminals' were Chris Murdoch (DH Christie); Roy Warke (Asda); Tracey Tannahill (Sainsbury's); Graham Walker (PSNI); Karen McKee (Kylemore Nursery School); Milne Rowntree (Roe Valley Sentinel); Stuart Purcell (Coleraine Borough Council); Heather McAllister (Bushmills Primary School) and Alan Simpson (BBC Radio Ulster)

The convicts were put before 'Judge' Teresa Fairley, before being release on their own bail of 500.

Davy was delighted with the turnout: " It was a great day and everyone had a good time. I have no final figure yet, but I'm guessing that we will have raised over 5,000 when all the bail money comes in.

"I have a lot of people to thank - the nine volunteers and the Judge Teresa Fairley. Teresa was great, and really got into the sprit of the day, so did the PSNI officers who were on hand, just incase anyone decided to escape.

"I'd also like to thank my wife Teresa for her help, she acted as the Court Clerk on the day, collecting the bail money, and Stephen, Dickie and Hamish who built the portable jail at the front of the Town Hall.

"The Rev Robert McMullan and the Kirksession of New Row Church for allowing me the use of a room for our court hearings and anyone else who made the day possible."

All of the money raised during the year will go to Davy's chosen charities - Chest, Heart and Stroke, Motorneurone Disease, Northern Ireland Hospice, Gateway Club, Friends of Willowbrook.
