Dementia Awareness Week in Coleraine

IF YOU are out and about shopping in Coleraine this week, you can take the opportunity to learn more about Dementia Awareness Week.

To mark the week, Adrian Friel of the Causeway branch of the Alzheimer's Society will be manning an information stand in Marks and Spencer on Thursday (June 18).

On Friday Starbucks coffee shop is holding a tea and coffee day for the local branch and again Adrian will be in attendance. To end the week on Sunday, local man Peter McCottor will be doing a sponsored parachute jump to raise funds for people living with Dementia and their carers.

Adrian would like to extend a very warm welcome to everyone to come along and support these events. And of course he would like to thank these people and companies for all their support in raising awareness of this illness.

Dementia is a general term for a range of physical conditions that affect the brain. These conditions are characterised by a progressive decline in mental ability such as the ability to remember, learn, understand, communicate and reason. In other words it is a gradual loss of skills including those needed for everyday activities.
