Funded project aims to enhance Coleraine area
COLERAINE Community Safety Partnership has funded a project to enhance and rejuvenate the Churchlands area of Coleraine.
The Churchlands Community Clean up initiative was launched to create a pleasant and attractive environment for the local community to enjoy.
The Community Safety Partnership hosted numerous meetings to consult with local community groups, schools and organisations, allowing residents to become actively involved in the planning stages, and to play an integral role in this project.
A prominent concern raised during these meetings was that the area lacked a central point for the community to come together. It was suggested that the introduction of flowerbeds and trees at Pates Lane would provide an appealing and welcoming focal point.
Orlaith Quinn, Community Safety Coordinator at Coleraine Borough Council was encouraged by the turnout at the clean up meetings and is confident that improvements made to the area will have a positive affect on the community.
She said, "The clean up scheme was created to encourage the community to come together and share a common purpose. Through this we aimed to create a stimulating and inspiring environment for the local community to enjoy and to inject a sense of pride into the area.
"We are confident that such improvements will enhance the area, making the neighbourhood a more appealing area to live and work in. We have been greatly encouraged by the support and interest shown by the local community, and look forward to working with them in the future."
Coleraine Community Safety Partnership consists of a range of statutory, voluntary, community and private organisations including Coleraine Borough Council, the Housing Executive, NI Probation Board and Local Community Groups, all of whom have been instrumental to the delivery of this project.
