Hanging inquest: officers to be called

COLERAINE police officers, including a retired superintendent are to be called to give evidence at the inquest of a man who took his own life at the PSNI station in Coleraine 18 months ago, a hearing at Mays Chambers in Belfast heard last week.

Coroner Joanne Donnelly told the preliminary hearing into Samuel Levi Bradley's death that a number of officers will be required to take the stand to shed some light on the tragic circumstances of August 14, 2008.

Mr Bradley was found hanging by a member of the public in the male toilet at Coleraine PSNI station.

Police and paramedics attempted to resuscitate him but he failed to regain consciousness.

At the time of his death it was unclear why Mr Bradley was at the station. He was not being held in police custody.

During last Tuesday's preliminary hearing, it was revealed the 44-year-old may have been involved in an altercation at his home on Kylemore Road with two other men before he died.

Police Ombudsman's Office representative, Stephen McCann, said he understood Mr Bradley had been waiting at the police station.

No date for the hearing has been set.
