Hooray for Heather!
A LOCAL woman has been honoured for her fundraising efforts.
Heather Pollock, from Coleraine is a volunteer fundraiser with CLIC Sargent.
Last week Heather was crowned Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year, at a glittering awards ceremony in Belfast.
Back in 2006, Heather's neighbour's son was diagnosed with cancer, and after seeing at first had the care and support CLIC Sargent offered, Heather felt that she wanted to give something back, and she set up the Causeway and Coastal Area Committee for CLIC Sargent.
Over the years the kind hearted mother of two and her hard working committee, have organised and hosted many successful events raising a staggering 75,000 for the cancer charity.
Heather's work was honoured at the awards last week, which were set up by the Institute of Fundraising Northern Ireland.
A modest Heather told The Coleraine Times: " I was told that I had been nominated for the award. I prefer to do things behind the scenes, so I was a bit nervous about attending the ceremony.
"I'm delighted to have won the award for the Causeway Committee, everyone has worked so hard to raise money for children with Cancer and their families.
Naomi Conway, Community Fundraising Manager for CLIC Sargent added: "We are absolutely thrilled to hear that Heather has won the Fundraising Volunteer of the Year award.
"Heather has been a loyal volunteer for CLIC Sargent for more than three years and works tirelessly to raise funds and the profile of the charity in the Causeway and Coastal area.
"It is great that her dedication and enthusiasm to help children and young people with cancer and their families has been formerly recognised. We send her our best wishes and congratulations on winning the award."
