IRISH CUP REACTION: Platt delighted to make it through to last eight

COLERAINE boss David Platt praised his side for the professional display to secure their place in the last eight of the Irish Cup.

Platt shuffled his squad before the game to freshen things up ahead of a busy schedule this month, but he admitted to Times Sport that he was down to the bare bones with only 16 players available to choose from.

"I used the squad wisely today as we only had 16 players available to us, but they did their job well and it's very pleasing to produce a professional display like that," he said.

"The games are coming thick and fast now over the next few weeks, so it was important to give the lads who haven't played much of late some game time.

"I made four or five changes from Tuesday night bringing in a few fresh legs, and that's what it's about at this stage in the season, making sure that we use our squad to its full capacity."

Platt applauded the efforts of their opponents Nortel and admitted it was nice to grab a few goals and keep a clean sheet in the process.

"We scored a few goals and kept a clean sheet which is very pleasing," said Platt.

"But in the end it doesn't matter if it's 1-0 or 10-0 as long as you win the game.

"It was our objective at the start of the day to make sure that we were in the hat for the next round and we're there so great.

But you have to give Nortel credit for coming here and having a go, we knew that they wouldn't make things easy for us and it could have been a bit of a banana skin for us if we hadn't approached the game in the right manner."
