LADIES FOOTBALL: Dip in form continues for Coleraine

COLERAINE Ladies are through to the next round of the Coca Cola Cup.

The Showgrounds side were due to meet Glenavon last night (Monday) in the second leg of the Cup competition, but the Lurgan outfit was unable to field a team, so Coleraine automatically claimed the win, and a place in the next round.

Last Wednesday night the girls travelled to Larne in the league.

Alison Nicholl's side are stuggling to find their form this season, having only won one of their six league games so far.

And Wednesday's game was a similar affair, as Coleraine found themelves 1-0 down after five minutes.

Alison Nicholl commented: "We started the game poorly and a few basic defensive errors let us down, and we found ourselves 1-0 down early on.

" After the goal, we did try and keep possession. Becky Naylor returned after a shin injury and did very well on her first game back."

Despite the possession it was the home side who increased their lead further. A scramble in the box resulted in their second goal, and as the first half came to a close Coleraine began to play.

Lauren Wade came close but she fired her effort straight at the Larne keeper, minutes later and disaster stuck again for Coleraine, as Larne grabbed their third, to leave the score 3-0 at the break.

Coleraine came out fighting in the second half, and created a number of chances. Alison Nicholl played Lauren Quinn in on goal on a number of occasions. Lauren was able to use her speed down the left hand side, but her efforts came to no avail.

Lauren Wade also had an effort cleared off the line.

Karen Miller battled hard up front, but she couldn't find that final touch to give the visitors a goal, and the score ended 3-0 to Larne.

Despite the result, Alison NIcholl was keen to praise her players: "Amy McAllister, who made her debut this season, having played in the Academy had a great game at left back. Amy is progressing well. Lauren Quinn also had a good game and it was good to see Becky Naylor back after her injury."

The Ladies next league game will see them travelling to play Fermanagh Mallards next week.

COLERAINE: Karri Nicholl, Becky Naylor, Shairee Nicholl (Capt), Sheena Jamison, Amy McAllister, Alison Nicholl, Lynsey Whiteside, Emma Murphy, Lauren Quinn, Lauren Wade, Karen Miller. Subs: Connie Brown
