A 19 year old man has been arrested in connection with a fire arms find in Coleraine last night (Wednesday).

Army technical officers were tasked to the scene in the Anderson’s Park area.

Union Street, Railway Road and Brook Street were all closed to traffic during the operation.

DUP MLA Adrian McQuillan has praised the police on the find.

“This is a peaceful part of Coleraine town centre and while we do not know the circumstances of the incident, it is very worrying that a weapon has been found.

“The days of guns on our streets are long gone.

“Credit to the PSNI on this successful operation.”

* The man arrested has now been released on bail pending further enquiries
