Portstewart to welcome Coleraine Select side to open new 200-seater stand

THERE'S been a transformation at Portstewart Football Club.

Last month, Gary Taylor was unveiled as the Club's new manager, and last week the club's new stand was put in place.

The 200 seater stand brings the Mullacacall ground up to IFA standards.

Club Chairman, Eammon Murray told Times Sport: "We had to make a number of improvements to get the ground up to IFA standards.

"This included a new 200 seater stand, which has been built on the side opposite the dug outs.

"Other work was carried out including new toilets within in the home and away changing rooms, and improvements to the referees room and boundary fences.Ground drainage work has also been carried out on the Seasider's pitch.

"All of this work was planned back in 2005, when the Club's hard working committee applied for a funding grant through the IFA and Sport NI."

The Chairman went on to thank Alex Morton Limited from Dromore who built the stand; McCloskey and O'Kane for the ground improvements; the design team of Durnian.com and Brian Canavan Associates, Coleraine, for their help.

Meanwhile Portstewart boss Gary Taylor has confirmed that he is in talks with a number of players and he is hopeful that they will sign in the next few weeks.

"It is difficult to get players on board," admitted the new boss.

"We start training tomorrow night (Tuesday) so we will sit everyone down and have a chat about the new season.

"Ian Todd is out with a long term injury, but he's agreed to take the Reserves this season.

"We'd like to get the Reserves up and running so that players can be fed through to the first team."

Gary went on: "Things are looking good. We have the new stand and the ground improvements but we've also been approached by new sponsors who would liek to come on board, so things are certainly looking bright for the new season."

Portstewart have a number of pre season friendlies lined up.

They will meet Mosside on the July 18, before welcoming a Coleraine Select team to officially open the new stand on July 21.
