Speech Matters

COLERAINE Borough Council is to write to the Northern Health Trust to seek help for the charity Speechmatters which helps people suffering from aphasia.

Aphasia is a language disorder which occurs most commonly after stroke. Members of Council's Leisure and Environment Committee heard a presentation from the charity at Tuesday night's meeting.

During a question and answer session it was revealed that the Northern Health Trust is the only Trust in the province which does not give recurring funding to the charity.

Members agreed to write to the Trust to try to rectify this situation.

Meanwhile, in support of Aphasia Awareness Week, Coleraine mayor, Cllr David Barbour and Cllr William Creelman will visit the Coleraine Speechmatters' Conversation Group in Rathain Fold, Union Street, Coleraine,on Wednesday, October 15 at 11.00am.
