Take care on the school run warn police
POLICE are reminding motorists in the borough to allow additional time to complete their journey to work in the mornings when the 'school run' begins this week and brings with it the inevitable increase in traffic on the roads.
Neighbourhood Constable, Andrew Young, said: "Experience tells us that we can expect to see a significant increase in the volume of traffic once the new school term begins. This often leads to traffic delays and tailbacks particularly at busy junctions and roundabouts."
"Everyone should therefore allow additional time to complete their journey to work safely and on time."
"I would also urge motorists to be patient when they encounter slow moving queues of traffic, to be courteous to other road users, and most importantly I would ask drivers to refrain from taking unnecessary risks."
"The old adage, that 'it is better to arrive late, than not to arrive at all' remains true to this day so please drive safely," said Constable Young.
Police are also urging parents to ensure children travelling to school in cars are properly restrained.
