Walk with Sarah

PORTSTEWART newsreader Sarah Travers is getting her walking boots on for Meningitis Research Foundation as part of their Meander Walks series.

The charity, founded in 1989, currently funds 18 research projects and BBC Newsline's Sarah is encouraging people to join her in support of their work. Three sponsored walks will be held throughout the province this September, with all proceeds going towards the charity's meningitis and septicaemia work.

Castlewellan Forest Park is a new location for the first three and half mile Meander on Saturday, September 6, against a backdrop of the Mourne Mountains and Castlewellan Lake. A mile long 'Mini Meander' for kids in Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park will take place the following Saturday with the Foundation's mascot Marvin. There will also be balloon modelling, a treasure hunt and other activities.

The final Meander along the Lagan Towpath in Belfast will leave Cutter's Wharf, heading to Shaw's Bridge and back again on Saturday, September 20. All participants will receive refreshments, goodie bags and literature.

Meningitis Research Foundation has awarded 118 research grants, leading to many advances in the prevention, detection and treatment of meningitis and septicaemia.
