Two local people have been honoured at a formal ceremony at Hillsborough Castle, receiving some of the highest accolades that can be conferred on members of the Reserve Forces and Cadet movement.

Presented with the Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate for Outstanding Meritorious Service Above and Beyond The Call of Duty – an award which is second in importance only to one presented by Her Majesty The Queen – was Staff Sergeant Price, who commands the only detached Unit of 152 (North Irish) Regiment Royal Logistic Corps at Coleraine, where he is noted, according to the Citation which accompanies his award, for ‘his great adaptability, a desire to help’ and ‘his values and integrity’.

At the same ceremony Coleraine College student, Cadet Sergeant Scott Curry, was appointed to the role of Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet for the County of Londonderry. Scott (17) a member of the Coleraine Army Cadet Force Detachment, will be one of nine Lord Lieutenants’ Cadets. He can expect a busy year ahead, attending Mr Denis Desmond CBE, Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant for the County of Londonderry, on major civic occasions. Scott will wear an insignia on his uniform throughout his year.
