Man charged with Long Commons assault

A 28-year-old Kilrea man has been charged in connection with an attack on a Chinese man in Coleraine last week.

Dr John Wu (45) was beaten by a gang outside his family home at Long Commons last Tuesday evening.

On Monday morning, Patrick Nalty of Claragh Hill Park in Kilrea appeared in the dock.

Court heard that Nalty admitted during a police interview that he has been in the area at the time and that he had struck the victim in the face before running off.

Nalty was released but as part of his bail conditions he is not permitted to enter Coleraine.

He will appear again before the court on Monday, October 15.

Two other men, aged 20 and 24 and a woman aged 19 have been released on bail in relation to the attack.
