THE mayor of Coleraine, councillor Sam Cole, took a glimpse into the future of the Creative Economy at Flowerfield Arts Centre last week!

And he found himself face to face with his own portrait, painted by the young artists in the arts and crafts classes at the centre, as part of the Council’s Summer Recreation Scheme.

Flowerfield Assistant Manager Deborah Logan, who co-ordinated the wide range of arts & crafts classes at the centre, explains: “This year has been a lot of fun, and offered one of the most diverse ranges of classes yet.

“Children from five years of age up to twelve have enjoyed a range of classes throughout July and August - in subjects that ranged from drawing and painting, ceramics and glassmaking, right up to developing their own computer games.”

The mayor was greeted by a riot of colour as he visited the classrooms to see the work at close range, and was impressed by what he saw: “It was fantastic to see the remarkable work of the budding painters and artists at Flowerfield, and I know this has been a terrific summer for developing creativity among young people – congratulations to all the young artists.”
